DELF A2 Production Écrite: Tasks, Marking and a Model Answer

17 octobre 2026 · Sonali Aggarwal

In the DELF A2 writing section you write two short texts of about 60–80 words each, and it is marked out of 25. Most students lose marks for not doing everything the task asks, not for their grammar.

The two writing tasks

  1. Describing an event or experience: for example, telling a friend about your holiday, a party or your first day at a new school. You mainly use the past (passé composé and imparfait).
  2. A message to invite, thank, apologise, accept or refuse: often a reply to an email you are given.

What the examiner checks

What is markedWhat it means in practice
Doing the taskEvery point in the instructions is answered, and the text is about 60–80 words
Right registertu for a friend, vous for a teacher or stranger, used consistently
OrganisationGreeting, ideas in a logical order, closing line, simple linking words (et, mais, puis, parce que, ensuite)
VocabularyWords that fit the topic, without too much repetition
GrammarPast tenses, agreements and simple sentences written correctly

Five mistakes I see every session

  1. Forgetting one part of the task. If the email asks when, where and what to bring, all three must be in your answer.
  2. **Mixing tu and *vous*** in the same message.
  3. Using only the present tense in task 1, which asks you to tell a past experience.
  4. Writing far too little or too much. Count your words, and stay close to 60–80.
  5. No greeting or closing. A message needs Salut Léa, at the start and À bientôt ! at the end.

Model answer (task 2)

The task: your friend Hugo invites you to his birthday party on Saturday. Reply: accept, ask what time it starts, and offer to bring something.

Salut Hugo,

Merci beaucoup pour ton invitation ! Je suis très content de venir à ta fête samedi. C'est à quelle heure ? Je finis mon cours de piano à 16 heures, donc je peux arriver après.

Est-ce que je peux apporter quelque chose ? Je fais un très bon gâteau au chocolat, ou je peux apporter des boissons.

À samedi !
Arjun

(about 70 words)

Why it scores well: it accepts, asks the time and offers to bring something, so it covers all three points. It uses tu throughout, has a clear greeting and closing, and uses linking words (donc, ou).
